ID Protection, at times also called WHOIS or Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the real contact information of domain registrants on WHOIS sites. Without protection, the name, home address and email of any domain name owner will be openly available. Supplying fake info during the domain registration procedure or changing the real information at a later time will just not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing their ownership of the domain name. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS info must be correct and accurate at all times. The ID Protection service was introduced by registrar companies as an answer to the increasing concerns for possible identity theft. If the protection service is active, the domain registrar’s contact information will be displayed instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that don’t.

ID Protection in Shared Website Hosting

If you order a shared website hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain and add ID Protection during the signup procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any moment afterwards through the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is astonishingly easy – once you log in, you will need to visit the Registered Domains section where you will notice a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered through our company. For each one of them you will see an “ID Protect” symbol, which will show you whether the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain name, or you can disable the service if it is currently enabled.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company and you register a domain name under it, you can add our ID Protection service without any effort. This requires only several clicks in the Hepsia Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you manage everything associated with your semi-dedicated account. This is the place where you can see all your registered domain names and for each of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” button, using which you can enable, renew or disable the ID Protection service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-specific domain extensions that support this option and you will be able to see this in advance, so you won’t end up ordering a service that we can’t provide.
